Retired Royalty: Nezabudka & Harley

Nezabudka and Harley went to their new home yesterday, and we wanted to share a quick update — because we know many of you have been following their story.

As always, this was not an easy decision for us. Letting go of our retired adults never is. But moments like this remind us why we make these choices so carefully.

In the weeks leading up to their transition, it had become clear that Nezabudka was ready for a quieter, more peaceful environment. The natural chaos of a busy breeding home — kittens, movement, energy — was no longer something she enjoyed. We’ve seen this pattern many times over the years, and it’s always our responsibility to listen when they tell us what they need. What both Harley and Nezabudka needed was some peace.

We could see the difference almost immediately when we brought them to Cyndi and Dave’s home.

Nezabudka stepped out with her tail high and began exploring right away — the bedroom, the bathroom, the climbers, the bed. She ate, drank, found a scratcher, and settled in as if she owned the place.

Harley took a little more time (as expected), but he also explored, ate, checked out the space, and eventually walked over and asked Alexander for affection. And then — in a moment that surprised all of us — he approached Dave and allowed him to pet him. That level of trust is something we expected to take days or even weeks for Harley, who came to us with trust issues, and instead it took about 75 minutes.

Nezabudka, meanwhile, was already purring loudly enough to be heard across the room and coming over for attention again and again.

By the time we left, both of them seemed settled, curious, and relaxed.

And today, we received this update from Cyndi:

“A few meows during the night but easily calmed. Harley is a little more skittish after Alexander left, but Neza is wherever I am and trying to trip me to get attention! That girl is an instant lover! She is purring so much!”

That is exactly what we hoped for.

Back at home, we’re seeing the other side of this transition as well — a noticeable sense of calm returning. Cats who had been on edge are relaxing again, playing again, enjoying the peace.

These transitions are never simple, but again and again, we see the same thing: when we find the right home for the right cat at the right time, everyone is happier.

We’re so grateful to Cyndi and Dave for opening their home and their hearts to these two… and so happy to see how smoothly Nezabudka and Harley are settling in. 💛
