It took us longer than it should’ve to admit it, but this summer, we finally had to rehome Arabesque.
She was spayed on May 14, and while we tried to make it work, she and Xilari were full-on enemies, and by the time Zefir attacked her, we knew we couldn’t keep living in a game of musical doors. She deserved better than being locked in a room alone most of the day. What she really wanted was company—especially other cats.
She’s always been one of the smartest cats we’ve ever had. Maybe the smartest. She played fetch, dragged her toys in circles to make the bell ring when she wanted attention, and watched us like she understood every word. Not a lap cat, but very much a cat who picked her people and stuck close. She was Angelina’s soul cat—and the long-term plan is for her to go back to her once Angelina is able to live on her own.
Until then, she’s with our friend Cris—and let’s just say she’s settling in beautifully.
Real quotes from her new kingdom:
“She’s decided Lando may not get within two feet of her. She has very big and strong opinions on how close any of the boys can get. 🤣”
“She cried to go out of the bedroom at 4am to see the other cats.”
“She’s playing near the boys now but still cautious. She’s starting to eat with them, too.”
“She comes when I call her. That was a big breakthrough.”
“She LOOOOVES the screen door. Birdwatching is now her thing.”
“She sleeps on top of the cat tower. Obi-Wan is not pleased. #Winning”
“She’s turned my new chair cushion into her throne. It’s the ‘princess pillow’ now.”
“She’s 90% good girl. Just the way I like them.”
She’s claiming territory, stealing hearts, and clearly doing just fine.
Arabesque was sweet when she wanted to be, bossy when she needed to be, and clever every second in between. She knew exactly how to get what she wanted—whether it meant opening doors she wasn’t supposed to, or dropping a kitten in the middle of the floor like a royal summons that said, “Feed me.”
She’s still running things—just from a new perch now. And somehow… we’re all still doing what she wants. We miss her… but we also love knowing she’s exactly where she needs to be.
