It All Started with Olive

If you ask our family how we became a guardian home for Spellbound Siberian Cats, the answer is simple: it all started with our oldest daughter, Olive.

For years, Olive dreamed of having a cat. Like many kids, she would ask often, hoping that one day we'd finally say yes. But with severe cat allergies in our home, we never thought cat ownership was a realistic possibility.

Then we discovered Spellbound Siberian Cats.

As we learned more about the Siberian breed and their hypoallergenic qualities, we started to wonder if having a cat might actually be possible. We quickly fell in love with both the breed and the philosophy behind Spellbound. There was just one challenge—bringing home a Siberian kitten wasn't in our family's budget at the time.

Then Olive noticed something on Spellbound's website that changed everything: a need for guardian homes.

At first, the idea sounded a little crazy…especially to my husband.

Inviting breeding cats into our home? Helping raise litters of kittens? It certainly wasn't something we had ever imagined doing.

But the more we talked with Carole, visited her home, met her beautiful cats, and learned how the guardian home program works, the more intrigued we became. We also had many family conversations—especially with our two daughters—about the commitment involved. We wanted everyone to understand that caring for these cats would be a daily responsibility, not just the fun parts.

Before long, what had once seemed like an unconventional idea felt like an incredible opportunity.

What Is a Guardian Home?

Before discovering Spellbound, we had never even heard of a guardian home.

In simple terms, guardian families provide loving forever homes for breeding cats. The cats live as cherished family pets, and when it's time for a litter, the breeder works closely with the family throughout the process. Once the cats retire from the breeding program, they remain permanent members of the guardian family's home.

For us, it was the perfect opportunity to welcome Siberians into our family while helping preserve this incredible breed.

Welcoming Tsezara and Luchik

On December 6, 2025, Tsezara and Luchik officially joined our family. We were also thrilled to care for the last of Tsezara’s kittens from her previous litter, who was still waiting for his forever home.

From the beginning, we were warned that they are very shy and it might take some time for them to warm up to us. We turned a room in our house to our cat cave and slept there, with them, for the first few nights. And, to everyone’s surprise, they quickly settled into our home beautifully. Their affectionate, easygoing personalities made them impossible not to love, and before long they had become part of our daily routines.

We were also determined to make sure our Boxer, Ernie, never felt displaced. With patient introductions and a little time, everyone found their rhythm. These days, it's just our version of one big, happy, slightly furry family.

A Pleasant Surprise

One of our biggest unknowns was how my husband would do living with cats. We also had concerns how our beloved boxer, Ernie, would do with the cats.

Because Siberians produce lower levels of the Fel d 1 protein that causes most cat allergies, we were hopeful—but cautiously optimistic.

While every allergy sufferer's experience is different, we've been amazed at how well he's done. And Ernie warmed up to the cats after just a few weeks of calculated introductions. It's opened the door to something we never thought our family would experience: living happily with cats.

Four Tiny Miracles

On March 23, Tsezara welcomed her fifth litter—and her very first with our family.

Watching her become a mother was nothing short of incredible. She delivered four beautiful, healthy kittens, and almost overnight, our home became even more joyful. Olive was right there with me, keeping Tsezara company for days leading up to and during the birth, and the experience was nothing short of magical.

Some of our favorite evenings were spent sitting on the floor watching four tiny kittens discover the world. We celebrated every little milestone: their eyes opening for the first time, those adorable wobbly first steps, the first time they chased a toy, and watching each of their unique personalities begin to shine.

Those are memories our family will treasure forever.

Our Girls Grew Right Alongside Them

One of the greatest gifts of this experience has been watching our daughters become infatuated with Luchik and Tsezara and grow alongside the kittens.

They help with daily responsibilities, spend countless hours gently socializing each kitten, and learn firsthand what it means to care for animals with patience and consistency. They arent just playing with kittens—they are helping prepare them to become confident, loving companions for their future families.

Watching our girls act with such compassion, responsibility, and confidence has easily been one of our favorite parts of this journey

We Were Never Alone

One thing we didn't fully appreciate before becoming a guardian family was just how supported we would feel.

Whenever we had questions, Carole was only a phone call or text away. Whether it was preparing for the kittens' arrival, understanding what to expect, or simply needing reassurance that something was normal, we always felt like we had an experienced partner guiding us.

That support gave us tremendous confidence and made the entire experience enjoyable from beginning to end.

The Sweetest Goodbyes

People often ask us what it was like to say goodbye to the kittens.

The honest answer?

It wasn't easy.

By the time they were ready for their forever homes, each kitten had developed a unique little personality, and we'd all become attached. There were definitely a few tears—especially from our younger daughter. .

But knowing each kitten was going to a carefully chosen, loving family made saying goodbye much easier. We still smile thinking about each one, and now we get to look forward to welcoming another litter this fall.

More Than We Ever Expected

When we first became a guardian home, we hoped we'd simply enjoy having two wonderful cats while helping Spellbound Siberian Cats.

Instead, this experience has given our family so much more.

It has brought laughter, learning, responsibility, unforgettable memories, and countless kitten cuddles into our home. It has shown our daughters the joy that comes from caring for others and reminded us that sometimes the best family adventures are the ones you never planned.

Lucy and Luchik have a forever bond and Tsezara and Olive have, too. Both cats have such a sweet bond with the girls that I would have never imagined. We are so blessed and they are so happy.

Looking Ahead

This fall, we're excited to welcome Tsezara's next litter and experience the magic all over again.
